Recycle Dad

Images of father’s life on repeat. In keeping with internet culture, “Recycle Dad” is presented as a trailer with aspirations to a greater, fuller narrative: A narrative that’s seemingly about normal life, perhaps a fascinating life but most probably a boring life. All this is packaged attractively for the viewer or the impatient web surfer. This is done using technicolour which doesn’t enhance the image but rather, distorts it. The narrative is compressed and fragmented; destroying instead of telling the story. Here and there, the themes of love and killing are raised in the piece, challenging notions of time. Much time lapses in a short in this four minute piece. What happens to the characters’ love (husband and wife, father and son, mother and son, Oedipal complex)? Is love killed as the piece suggests? Or does love become a killing tool?
